More than $10 million is coming to Kansas to support people affected by crime.

On Wednesday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced $10,289,285 in federal funding will be awarded to community-based organizations and local and state agencies to assist victims and survivors of crime.

“These services are critical to the well-being of Kansas residents affected by crime,” Kelly said. “This funding gives organizations the opportunity to continue to provide victims and survivors of crime the support they deserve as they stabilize their lives, navigate the criminal justice system and regain a sense of safety and security.”

22 of 105 counties in Kansas received funding for 65 agencies. According to a news release from the governor’s office, Sedgwick County and Wichita lead the way with 11 agencies. A total of $1,767,382 will go to the county and city.

Six agencies in Shawnee County received a total of $2,593,357, more than any other county.

Funding comes from the Federal Crime Victims Act. Funding will be provided for crisis counseling provided by sexual assault and mental health centers and forensic interviews conducted by child advocacy centers, the release said.

Other services include accommodation and transportation.
