10 years ago, the Idaho Family Band caused chaos at Walmart; 1 police shot

Just a few weeks away will mark the 10th anniversary of one of the most bizarre and chaotic Walmart visits ever, involving a traveling musical family from the Boise area. What happened that Saturday turned a quiet western desert town of 13,000 into a media circus for several months.

I don’t fully understand why this true story hasn’t been made into a film yet. A Walmart in Arizona was converted into one Quentin Tarantino film on the second day of spring in 2015, and a police officer was shot, several people were bloodied and injured, batons were used, pepper spray was sprayed in the eyes, Tasers were used and one person died.

A video of part of the frenzied, deadly confrontation in the parking lot is available online; One of the family members was killed that day.

This incredible event has everything you would expect from a Hollywood script. It started with an assault on an employee, then a fight in the parking lot, multiple shots fired, a police officer shot and the death of one of the suspects in what can only be described as a total supermarket disaster.

Did I mention that the Idaho group that started it all – known as the Gaver Family – was a traveling religious music group?

Everything went downhill Saturday March 21, 2015. A video of part of the frenzied, deadly confrontation in the parking lot is available online; One of the family members was killed that day. The police officer thankfully recovered from his injuries.
