12-year-old boy steals Grandpa’s car and goes for a joyride

Investigators say a teenager stole his grandfather’s car for a multi-county road trip the day before Thanksgiving.

Issaquah police contacted area authorities and asked them to keep an eye on the child who was traveling east in the stolen vehicle.

Investigators believed the boy may have been heading toward Moses Lake because he had ties to that area.

Grant County sheriff’s deputies said they saw the accused child car thief parked on the 900 block of Lowry Street in Moses Lake, which is more than 150 miles from Issaquah.

Instead of turning in his grandfather’s car, the suspected child scammer led officers on a chase, investigators said.

The chase ended with one of the officers intentionally using his patrol car to eject the 12-year-old in the stolen car in what was known as a “pit maneuver.”

The boy is currently in the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony evading.

According to investigators, no one was injured and the car sustained minimal damage.
