19-year-old is charged with drinking alcohol and driving a stolen car to Las Vegas with firearms

A 19-year-old man is facing charges after he was found driving in a stolen car with stolen firearms.

Sebastain Gage Hinson, 19, was arrested on suspicion of three second-degree felony counts of theft of a firearm and an unoperated motor vehicle and one Class B misdemeanor count of purchase, possession or consumption of measurable amounts of alcohol by a minor. The affidavit states.

On Wednesday, a St. George Police Department officer responded to northbound I-15 near Exit 4 to assist a Utah Department of Transportation employee with a stolen vehicle.

The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Hinson.

Hinson reportedly drove the car until he ran out of gas. He also knew that the car he was driving had been reported stolen, the affidavit said.

Officers spoke with Hinson and said he admitted to stealing the vehicle.

Hinson told officers that the vehicle belonged to a relative and that he had stolen it that morning to drive to Las Vegas, the affidavit said.

He reportedly had never had permission to take the vehicle in the past.

When officers asked Hinson if he had anything the officer “should know about,” he replied, “Probably a marijuana vaping device” and three firearms.

One of the firearms was Hinson’s, and the other two belonged to the owner of the vehicle, the affidavit states.

Hinson admitted to stealing those firearms as well.

He told officers he broke into the closet of the owner he lives with and took the firearms without permission.

When searching the vehicle, officers also found an open container of alcohol, the affidavit states.

Hinson reportedly told officers he had been drinking in Las Vegas but was sober while driving.
