1949: Thieves steal office safe and new car – Post Bulletin

1999 – 25 years ago

  • It has been announced that Rev. Jesse Jackson, a longtime civil rights activist, will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Rochester. Jackson will speak at the Mayo Civic Center.
  • Muhamad Alit was honored as Athlete of the Century during the Sports Illustrated 50th Century Awards Night at Madison Square Garden.

1974 – 50 years ago

  • A packed crowd of more than 300 fans honored the two-time Mayo State Class AA champions Rochester John Marshall High School football team at a dinner at the Ramada.
  • Southland’s Tim Halligan hit a free throw as time expired in the fourth quarter to give the Rebels a 68-67 victory over Pine Island in Wasioja Conference basketball play.

1949 – 75 years ago

  • Cyclists were reminded by police that city ordinances require headlights on bicycles used for night riding.
  • Thieves broke into Roy Barker’s garage in Harmony and stole the office safe and a new car.

1924 – 100 years ago

  • The Minnesota State American Legion Commander will be in St. Charles. He will speak, the public is invited.
  • Farmers National Bank of Dodge Center, the largest bank in Dodge County, suddenly closed its doors. The closure came as a surprise to people in the community and no reason was given.
  • Old Man Winter appeared and covered the area in snow, ice and sleet. Numerous cars were in ditches.
