2 dead in search for Sasquatch in Washington National Forest

Two Portland men died searching for Sasquatch during Christmas week, officials said.

According to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the Skamania County Communications Center received a report around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day from a family member of two people who were searching for Sasquatch and were missing after planning to return home on December 24th ).

A “flock camera,” also known as a license plate reader, located the man’s car on Oklahoma Road near Willard, Washington, SCSO said.

Search and rescue personnel, including more than 60 volunteers, dogs, drones and ground search teams, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard aircraft, searched for the men for three days.

“After a strenuous three-day search over difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions, the 59-year-old man and 37-year-old man, both from Portland, Oregon, who were reported missing/endangered, were found, deceased, in a heavily wooded area of ​​the Gifford Pinchot National Forest,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

“Both deaths appear to be due to exposure based on weather conditions and lack of preparation,” SCSO added.

The sheriff’s office thanked the volunteers who spent Christmas week searching for the men in “freezing temperatures, snow, high water, heavy rain, precipitation and densely wooded terrain” and enabling the men to get home to theirs to be brought to families.

“The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the loved ones who lost their lives in this tragic incident,” SCSO said.

The men’s names were not released.

In 2019, a Travel Channel blog post said Washington was the “world’s most active region” for sasquatch sightings. Of particular note are the Blue Mountains and Okanogan County, which according to the Travel Channel are “the site of one of the most aggressive Bigfoot encounters of all time.”
