2 People Hospitalized, Route 1A Closed in East Boston After Charter Bus Topples Utility Poles – Boston 25 News

BOSTON – Traffic was backed up for miles after a charter bus carrying workers to Logan Airport knocked over several power poles and closed both sides of Route 1A in East Boston Monday morning.

Video from the scene showed a crashed academy bus with a shattered windshield on the south side of 1A on William F. McClellan Highway 175, which carries traffic to the airport.

Massachusetts State Police troopers moved southbound on Boardman Street and northbound on Addison Street, according to Massdot.

“Drivers navigating to Logan Airport are asked to plan additional travel time,” Massdot wrote in a post on X.

The Boston Police Department said the bus knocked down four light poles and two transformers just before 5:45 a.m., leaving wires scattered across the highway in the Suffolk Downs area.

The bus had several people on board and two injuries were reported. Police said both people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, Massport said: “The bus was transporting employees. Passengers should expect delays getting to the airport. “

Motorists were urged to avoid the area due to severe delays.

In a post on X, Boston police wrote: “Traffic is being diverted to East Boston neighborhoods. Traffic in East Boston, Revere and Chelsea will be affected. Please find an alternative route. “

Eversource was notified of the crash, police noted.

An investigation is ongoing.
