“2024 YEAR IN REVIEW” by Jesse Beahler of Thy Art Is Murder

Your art is murder

The Australian deathcore kings had a banner year in 2024, traveling around the world and playing shows to audiences of millions. Following the release of last year’s album Godlikeand in addition to her latest single ‘I cleanse with blood‘, the troupe have also been tearing up Australian shows, proving that the best and heaviest bands from the land down under rule.

We met the drummer Jesse Beahler to take us through his favorite releases, shows and more in our year in review…

WHICH AUSTRALIAN BAND DO YOU HAVE ON REPEAT?

Psycroptic, obviously. This band is a constant source of joy and influence for me. They have been one of my favorites for over a decade. Joe and Dave Haley are both true masters of their instruments and I love the way they write songs. They always upset me too much. Psycroptic is one of the few bands where I know every single album. Big respect to these guys who paved the way for Aussie Extreme Metal!! They will always be my favorite Australian band.

Best gig you played this year and why?

My favorite gig was probably Graspop in Belgium. The overall atmosphere was fantastic. It was a perfect sunny day where I saw tons of bands that I love. Immediately after sunset, an insane show followed! It was such a great audience and that always creates a lot of energy for us in the band. The entire team was on the right track and put on a fantastic show that I will always remember.

TELL US ABOUT A SURREAL CAREER HIGHLIGHT YOU HAVE IN 2024

In 2024 I had the opportunity to travel Europe’s huge festival scene for the second time. This year we went in June/July, where some of the biggest festivals take place. I was able to perform at Rock am Ring and Rock Im Park, which together attract over 150,000 people. Going onto these huge stages is the definition of surreal for a touring musician. Another dreamlike moment; Supporting Parkway Drive at the debut of their own festival Park Waves in Dresden, Germany. We performed right after a heavy rainstorm had just torn the stage apart. The chaos of this show was definitely unlike anything else.

How was recording your new material?

Thy Art released our latest album Godlike in October 2023. Personally, I think the reception was great! We put effort into curating the songs so that they would work well in a live setting, and we’ve done that in spades this year. You can really feel the big hooks and choruses at the shows and that leads to a stronger connection with our fans. I think it was our biggest tour cycle to date and it was a joy to play these songs to more people than ever before.

Any previews of plans for the coming month?

Stay tuned for our 9-week European run with legends Parkway Drive and The Amity Affliction! It will be an intense tour with direct support for one of the biggest metal bands in the world. We’re working on our biggest and best production ever. If you get the chance to come to these shows, don’t miss it.

The best advice for 2025?

I’m so bad at giving advice. I mean, there are so many ways to look at this life. I think there is room for everyone to express themselves. The only path you have is to be yourself and you will end up exactly where you are meant to be. So I guess just try it and enjoy it if you feel like it.
