Genesis Hinckley, also known as Genuinely Genesis, is a motivational speaker and financial content creator with the goal of making her followers “rich in both their wallets and their minds.”

“Poor people work for money, rich people let their money work for them,” she said in a recent Reel post on Instagram. “If you grew up poor or in a middle-class family, you probably don’t know these things about rich people. I have experienced both scenarios and want you to overcome this financial hurdle.”

Choose your hard

Hinckley admits that becoming rich isn’t easy, but you have to “choose hard.”

“It’s hard to be fat, it’s hard to be fit; it’s hard to be poor, it’s hard to be rich; it’s hard not to get what you want; “It’s hard to get what you want,” she said. “You can live your life always blaming appearances, but at the end of the day you have a choice.”

Build an emergency fund

Hinckley said it’s difficult to become rich when an unexpected expense sends you into debt. That’s why it’s important to always have three to six months’ worth of living expenses available in a savings account.

“It’s not your daily cup of coffee that’s making you broke,” she said. “Actually, something like this happens once and for which we were not financially prepared. Your car breaks down, your bathroom floods, you need a new dryer. An emergency fund protects you and protects you from the “what ifs.”

Pay off your high-interest debt

You can’t build wealth while still burdened with high-interest debt, so Hinckley recommends making paying off that debt a priority.

“It keeps you from sinking,” she said. “If you’re living paycheck to paycheck and constantly asking yourself, ‘How do I get out of this?’, the only way is to live below your means and get rid of all your consumer debt. ”

Invest your money

Once you’ve built your emergency fund and paid off your high-interest debt, you can start building wealth. The best way to do that is to invest, Hinckley said.

“Invest your money based on what feels comfortable to you,” she said. “Now you finally have the freedom to invest your money in assets. And if you do just that, you won’t have to live on Social Security in retirement.”

These four simple “secrets” are the key to getting and staying rich, Hinckley said.

“Rich people haven’t really cracked the code,” she said. “They followed the steps, took action, and listened to the little financial guru on their screen. They made a hard choice.”
