4 takeaways from No. 9 Alabama’s 83-81 loss to Oregon

No. 9 Alabama fell in the Players Era Festival championship game, losing 83-81 to Oregon on Saturday.

As a consolation, the second-place Crimson Tide will take home $1.25 million in zero money. The loss leaves the Crimson Tide at just 6-2 on the season, with a few more tough non-conference games on the schedule before SEC play begins.

Here are a few takeaways from the game.

Tons of sales

Alabama had turnover problems in all three games in Las Vegas. Over the course of three games at the Players Era Festival, Alabama turned the ball over more than 50 times. On Saturday, the Crimson Tide turned over 15 times, leading to a 17-point deficit on turnovers. Losses of the ball continue to make the difference between wins and losses this season.

Stevenson finds his stroke

Jarin Stevenson struggled with his three-point shooting early in the year. Stevenson missed his first 18 three-point attempts before finally sinking two in the previous game. Tonight he scored three more goals in four attempts.

Solid game from Philon

Freshman standout Labaron Philon had another solid performance Saturday night. Philon led the team with 15 points and recorded two assists. Philon also tied for a team-high seven rebounds with Grant Nelson. In his young career at Alabama, Philon is beginning to find his role alongside veteran guard Mark Sears.

Sears is going cold turkey

One of Alabama’s most consistent three-point shooters went ice cold. Mark Sears was limited to just 11 points by Oregon’s defense. He made eleven three-point attempts, but was only able to sink one of them.

Alabama will face North Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
