49ers News: Bring on the Rams

Kyle Shanahan reflects on the 49ers’ Week 14 win over the Bears and provides an injury update

“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters during a conference call on Monday, a day after the team’s 38-13 victory over the Chicago Bears. Here’s everything he said.”

Branch: Guerendo injury could force 49ers to go even deeper on running back depth chart (Paywall)

“With Guerendo out, Taylor could share backfield duties with wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Ke’Shawn Vaughn, a 27-year-old who has four years of experience with the Buccaneers. Samuel has excelled as a part-time running back in recent seasons, averaging 6.3 yards on 160 carries, but in 2024 he’s averaging 2.9 yards on 32 attempts. The 49ers also have Israel Abanikanda, a 2023 fifth-round pick who they claimed off waivers from the Jets last week.

“There have to be three (running backs) in the building at all times in case situations like this happen,” Shanahan said. “And hopefully it doesn’t have to come to that, but if it does, we’ll assume (Abanikanda) is ready.”

49ers Minutia Minute: Isaac Guerendo is doubtful for Thursday; Who’s next man up? (paywall)

“One of the topics this season was how long Purdy held the ball before his throws – more than 3 seconds, one of the longest periods of time by any starting quarterback. On Sunday, according to Next Gen Stats, his time to throw was 2.87 seconds, which put him in the middle of the pack.”

49ers Practice and Media Schedule: Preparing for Week 15 game against the Rams

“The San Francisco 49ers will hold a full practice this week to prepare for their Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams.”

49ers injury report: Guerendo ankle sprain jeopardizes status against Rams

“There’s a chance,” Shanahan said of Greenlaw returning to play against the Rams. “I haven’t spoken to him yet. So when he gets here tomorrow we will see how he feels and how training goes on Tuesday and Wednesday and then make our decision.”

Defensive end Nick Bosa (hip and oblique) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) missed their third straight game on Sunday. “They will be evaluated throughout the week to determine if they can play on Thursday night,” Shanahan said.

49ers injuries: Updates on Guerendo, Greenlaw and others

“Kyle Shanahan has indicated that Guerendo’s status will be monitored in the coming days. There are no clear signs as to whether or not he will play against the Rams on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Ben Bartch is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious ankle sprain. He is expected to be placed on injured reserve. However, the 49ers get starting left guard Aaron Banks back. He approved the concussion protocol.”
