5 Creative Ways to Use AI Chatbots (With Prompts)

Quick links

It has been some time since OpenAI’s ChatGPT was launched, and Google’s Gemini and Claude were also released a year later. The era of AI chatbots is here and it has truly shown us a new wave of possibilities, and we will explore five creative ways to realize their potential.

When ChatGPT was released, it quickly went viral on social media with people showing off what it could do. While initially intended solely for entertainment, these AI chatbots are proving their worth in education, work, and even culinary fields. In fact, I find new uses for it every day. It’s like having a curious, insightful and surprisingly creative assistant on standby.

1 Learn a new language

Imagine learning a new language with a tutor who never gets tired, corrects you without judgment, and doesn’t mind repetition. Language acquisition comes from practicing, trying out and immersing yourself. Whether it’s learning French idioms or everyday Spanish vocabulary, a chatbot can simulate dialogues, query vocabulary or provide feedback on pronunciation and grammar.

To practice conversations, you can use a prompt like this:

Prompt:

“Let’s have a beginner’s conversation in (target language) about (topic, e.g. ordering in a cafe, meeting a friend, or asking for directions). Let’s go back and forth. I’ll start and please correct any mistakes I make.”

Follow-up request:

“Could you suggest other common expressions that would come up in a conversation like this?”

This is what it looks like:

An AI chatbot with its ability to emulate real-time conversations becomes the perfect partner to practice with. Over time, it’s the closest thing to immersion you can get without traveling to a country that speaks the language you’re learning – tailored exercises, cultural insight (to a point), and endless patience are all great benefits .

On the other hand, AI apps like ChatGPT are not 100% trustworthy and can still make things up, so they shouldn’t be the only source for your language learning!

Studying for school or learning content for work, especially alone, can be incredibly boring. For anyone who needs a reliable companion to discuss a concept, review material, or share ideas, an AI chatbot can be a fantastic learning partner.

Need help breaking down a dense paragraph from a textbook or academic journal? It can be rephrased and explained in a way that you can understand. Stuck on a math problem or programming challenge? It can guide you step by step without simply dropping the answer. Just make sure you double check your answer as AI bots are not yet the best at math, although ChatGPT has significantly improved its math capabilities with its newer model.

Using the following prompt, you can help the AI design a learning day around a topic or goal that maximizes your time and covers all essential areas. Feel free to adapt it to your needs.

Prompt:

Could you help me design a learning routine that focuses on (topic, goal or topics) that maximizes my time and covers all essential areas? My exam is in two months and I want to study for an hour every day?

Example prompt to get industry summaries:

I need a brief summary of (specific industry or subject area concept, e.g. “current trends in digital marketing” or “cloud security basics”). Can you provide an overview of the key points I should know? Answer in a simple and easy to understand way.

Follow-up request:

Can you also give examples of how companies are successfully implementing these trends?

Here is the answer I received from Claude AI:

Dialogue between user and Claude AI about learning the basics of concurrency control in database management.

Pretty neat, right? I am also asked if I would like to explain something in more detail. I like using AI chatbots to learn faster. The experience becomes more interactive and engaging. I can come across concepts faster than surfing the Internet or reading from a textbook. The ability to learn concepts more quickly can also be very mentally rewarding and give you a feeling of accomplishment. Almost as if your very own personal tutor was available at any time.

3 Recipe ideas, simplified

Imagine having a digital assistant in the kitchen that not only has recipe ideas, but can also be creative with substitutions, suggest appropriate side dishes, or even optimize a dish based on your preferences or dietary restrictions.

While I wouldn’t be relying on AI chatbots for accurate recipes any time soon (especially when measurements or time are involved), they can give you a lot of inspiration when you don’t know what to cook. You can conjure up recipe ideas more quickly using the ingredients you already have in the kitchen.

Consider the following prompt:

I want to make spaghetti bolognese, but it has to be vegan for my dinner guests. What substitute can I use for this dish? I need a quick and easy recipe idea and also suggest simple side dishes that go well with it.

The recipe I chose included using tofu crumbles and mushrooms as a meat substitute, as well as ideas for sides like garlic bread, mixed green salad, and grilled vegetables. Doesn’t sound bad, does it?

4 Immerse yourself in new hobbies

Want to try a new hobby but feel intimidated and don’t know where to start? The initial excitement of trying something new can fade when you’re learning alone, or you don’t have a complete grasp of everything you need to get started. It’s not just about equipment and tools, but also about ideas. AI chatbots can help you take these first steps.

Let’s take the example of woodworking as a hobby:

Prompt:

Can you give me an overview of woodworking for beginners that covers essential tools, safety tips, and basic techniques I should know before I get started?

Follow-up request:

Could you explain the purpose of each tool in a simple woodworking tool kit, e.g. B. saw, chisel and tape measure, and recommend some beginner-friendly brands?

I asked ChatGPT:

What are some easy woodworking projects for beginners that don’t require special equipment? I’m interested in projects that I could complete over the weekend.

Here is the answer I got:

Dialogue between user and ChatGPT to get easy woodworking project ideas that can be done on weekends and don't require special tools.

The best part is that you can get helpful advice without the intimidating pressure or expense of a formal course.

5 Brainstorming projects and ideas

Before AI, I was a fan of mind maps when brainstorming. Whether you’re working on a work proposal, designing a blog outline or title, or thinking about a new business idea, an AI chatbot can serve as an extremely useful brainstorming partner.

It offers a new perspective, offers thought-provoking questions, and raises ideas that may just be the missing piece of the puzzle. You can even ask for ideas for decorating a room, creating a trading card game, or even finding the perfect niche gift for someone (yes, a little sneaky!).

Consider the following sample prompt:

Prompt:

Generate gift ideas for a middle-aged friend, homeowner, and single who is interested in arts and crafts, especially painting, candle making, and fragrances. They also own two dogs, love animals, work in sales and are vegetarians. What things should I look for? What “nice-to-have” items might this person not own? Is there anything I should avoid? Generate some ideas.

The answer is too long for a single screenshot, but here are some ideas that came from it: high-quality art supplies like paint brushes or special canvases, personalized scent diffuser, custom dog portrait or paw print kit, easy-care houseplants, etc. Art or craft subscription box.

It was also mentioned to look for pet-safe essential oils or sprays, as well as leather or animal products (my friend is vegetarian). I now have gift ideas for every birthday and Christmas.

It seems like AI chatbots are here to make life a little easier and a lot more interesting. Whether you’re learning, cooking, or taking up a new hobby, there’s always something fun to discover. Just check everything again!
