5 dead in car crashes in northern Idaho during Thanksgiving week

While many gave thanks during the Thanksgiving holiday, many others mourned the recent deaths in car accidents across Idaho.

Idaho State Police reported at least five deaths during the Thanksgiving holiday between November 25 and December 1, and added another on Monday of this new week. All of last week’s fatal crashes occurred on or near US95 in northern Idaho.

Last week, before and during Thanksgiving, Idaho State Police reported fatal crashes on US95/Highway 95 south of Moscow, in White Bird, south of Grangeville and near Worley on Highway 58.

5 dead in car accidents in Idaho during Thanksgiving holiday

1 person died in the accident near Moscow on November 25th, 2 died in the accident at White Bird on November 29th, 1 reported death in the accident south of Grangeville and 1 person died in the accident at Worley.

One person was killed in an accident on Highway 95 south of Moscow on November 25th

The Idaho State Police report states:

A blue 2001 Ford Focus, occupied by a 40-year-old man from Lewiston, Idaho, was traveling north on the highway when it approached stationary traffic. Traffic was suspended due to construction work in the area. The blue Ford Focus approached stationary traffic, turned, struck the side of a white 2021 Chevrolet Silverado and then drove off the right shoulder and down an embankment.

The driver of the Ford Focus was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred at 10:38 a.m. on northbound Highway 95 at Eid Road.

2 dead in crash on US95 in White Bird on November 29th

ISP released an update to the original report after a second person died from their injuries following a crash in White Bird on US 95 near mile marker 222.

At approximately 9:18 p.m., a 50-year-old Riggins man was traveling north on US95 in a 2017 Lexus when he crossed into the southbound lane. A 66-year-old woman from Riggins was traveling south on US95 in a 2015 Mercedes-Benz with two passengers, a 63-year-old man and a teenage woman, when they were struck by the Lexus.

All parties were wearing seatbelts. The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were transported by ground and air rescue to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz, a 63-year-old man from Riggins, died at the hospital from his injuries. The driver of the Lexus suffered serious injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

1 fatality in crash on Highway 58 near Worley on November 29th

A second fatal accident occurred on the 29th in Idaho near the Washington state border at milepost 1.5 on State Highway 58.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2000 Honda CR-V was traveling westbound on State Highway 58, exited left of center and collided head-on with a blue 2011 Chrysler Town & Country that was on the State Highway 58 was traveling eastbound.

The Honda was driven by a 31-year-old man from Aberdeen, Washington, who was the sole occupant, was not wearing a seatbelt, and died from his injuries at the scene.

The Chrysler was driven by a 20-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington. Also in the Chrysler were a 22-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington, an 18-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington, and a 17-year-old man from Moscow, Idaho. All occupants of the Chrysler were wearing seatbelts and were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident.

Update December 1st regarding 1 fatality in a crash on US95 south of Grangeville

Idaho State Police released a crash update regarding the location of the crash, which occurred around milepost 236.5 on US95.

At approximately 5:07 a.m., a 30-year-old male driver from Lewiston, ID, was traveling south on US95 in a 2003 Ford F350 pickup truck when he veered off the right side of the road. The pickup then rolled over several times and came to rest with the driver’s side against a fence. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He then died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.

On Monday, ISP reported that one person was killed in a crash on US30 near Hagerman on Dec. 2. The accident involved a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a GMC Sierra truck.
