5 key observations from Illinois basketball’s win over the Indiana Hoosiers

3. Amazingly efficient play from the Illini

An efficient Illinois basketball team is a scary Illinois basketball team. In the game against Indiana, we saw one of the most efficient Illini squads in a long time.

Illinois finished the night with six turnovers. This number exceeds our season average of 11.6 turnovers per game. It was also one of the highest grossing performances of the season.

The six turnovers the Illini had against the Hoosiers were the second fewest we’ve seen from this team. The only game with a lower turnover came in the second game of the season against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

In addition to these impressive numbers, this is the first time since late November that Illinois has recorded fewer than 10 turnovers. However, this is no surprise.

Kasparas Jakucionis was back in action. He accounted for half of Illinois’ turnovers, but he improves everyone else around him. That’s the sign of a great player. Can you elevate your teammates’ play? And Jakucionis can do that in spades.

Illinois is now 4-0 when we have fewer than 10 turnovers per game. We win these four games by an average of 40.5 points per game. If we can keep sales down, I think we can hit a bottom in March.
