MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A little girl is dead after she was struck by a vehicle in an east Memphis neighborhood. This tragic incident now leaves a family grieving their loss.

FOX13 spoke with family members to learn more about the child who lost his life.

The family told FOX13 the girl was only 6 years old. Her name was Celina. The family said they were walking across the street when the tragedy occurred.

“My sister was hit by a car and it was so sad,” 13-year-old Anameli told us on Sunday, a day after the unfortunate event.

Anameli bravely spoke out on behalf of her family and her little sister, who was struck by the vehicle Saturday evening.

“They want the police to investigate intensively so they can help us.”

Police reported the call came in at 5:41 p.m. in the East Memphis neighborhood

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 4300 block of East Mallory, where police reported a “juvenile” female pedestrian was struck. The girl later died in hospital.

Anameli translated for her parents and shared with them the concerns and questions they still have about their daughter’s death.

“He wants justice,” Anameli said of her father. “Nobody has ever spoken to us about my sister, nor anything about the accident or the person.”

The family told FOX13 they were crossing the street to visit a neighbor when 6-year-old Celina was hit. According to the family, the driver failed to stop at the stop sign. This was not confirmed by the police.

The girl’s parents are now desperate to find out more about the person behind the wheel who is accused of fatally hitting their daughter.

“They want to know what happened to this guy, but they don’t know yet whether he went to prison or not.”

According to police, the driver was still on scene when officers arrived. FOX13 asked if charges have been filed in the case. MPD told our team there have been no arrests. This is an ongoing investigation.
