7-year-old boy fatally struck after falling from car in Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Md. – A 7-year-old boy fell out of a car and was fatally struck on Interstate 97 in Millersville Sunday night, state police said.

Police said the driver who hit the child did not remain at the scene.

The victim’s name has not been publicly released.

According to authorities, the hit-and-run accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on northbound I-97, just north of Maryland Route 32 in Anne Arundel County.

According to police, the backseat passenger opened the window, fell out of a 2011 Mazda 3 and landed in the lane.

According to police, the child was then struck by an oncoming 2016 to 2019 Honda Civic sedan.

Authorities said they are searching for the Honda, which may have damage to the front left wheel well.

Paramedics confirmed the boy’s death at the scene, police said.

Police believe the Mazda driver is the child’s grandmother. Authorities said she was not injured.

Maryland State Police are still investigating.
