Kalen DeBoer’s pitch to the CFP committee on why Alabama football should make the playoffs

Maybe, just maybe, Alabama football will sneak into the College Football Playoff.

The Crimson Tide finished the regular season 9-3 and capped it with a 28-14 victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

No. 13 Alabama needs to move up at least two spots to get into the CFP field. The Crimson Tide will have to wait a week to find out their fate. But until then, what does Kalen DeBoer suggest to the CFP committee as to why his team should be included in the playoffs?

DeBoer referenced the schedule when speaking after the win over the Tigers. Alabama has three wins against teams in the CFP top 25: No. 7 Georgia, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 21 Missouri.

“When you talk about the schedule and what it looks like week to week, it’s just tedious,” DeBoer said. “Since we have to come back every week, the only conference that has to do that is ours. I would say that. We’ve won five of our last six. Play physical football. I think we have continued to excel in this area. What the game is about. I think those are two pretty big deals. Beat some quality teams. I think the teams that are still out there are playing good ball themselves. And in the second half of the season I’ve just won five of the last six.”

Ahead of Alabama in the rankings, No. 6 Miami suffered a second loss as Syracuse beat the Hurricanes 42-38. Meanwhile, No. 12 Clemson lost to No. 15 South Carolina.

The new CFP rankings will be released on Tuesday. Then the committee will announce the rankings that matter, the final rankings will be announced on Sunday December 8th. The conference championships will be held beforehand. Alabama didn’t make it to the SEC Championship game and will have to wait and see if it has a chance to win a national championship.
