Former Orange County sheriff’s deputy charged with murder of wife, sheriff’s office lieutenant

An Orange County grand jury has formally indicted 49-year-old Anthony Shea on first-degree murder with a firearm for shooting and killing his wife, an Orange County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant, and for providing evidence in a capital case had manipulated.

On October 14, officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office went to a home in east Orange County near Orlando and found 39-year-old OCSO Lt. Eloilda Shea suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel transported her to a local hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigators determined that Lt. Shea’s husband, Anthony Shea, a former Orange County sheriff’s deputy, intentionally shot his wife in their home and then attempted to tamper with evidence.

On November 20, prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to obtain a two-count indictment against Shea of ​​first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with evidence in a capital case.

Words cannot do justice to the pain our OCSO family is experiencing this week as we mourn the loss of Lieutenant Eloilda “Ellie” Shea, who was shot and killed by her estranged husband on Monday, October 14th.

Lt. Shea, just 39 years old, joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and quickly made a name for herself as a compassionate police officer, rising star and friend to so many she worked with.

She lit up every room she walked into with her infectiously bubbly personality, beautiful spirit and friendly smile.

Ellie has been a mentor, teacher, advocate, protector, cheerleader and an inspiration to women aspiring to leadership roles.

A loving mother of two young girls, Ellie served her community with grace, integrity and pride and we will miss her deeply.

Her family at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been devastated by this tragedy, and we hug each other – and everyone who loves Ellie – as we try to cope with this devastating loss.

According to local reports, court documents indicate that Anthony Shea resigned because he is under investigation for an on-duty affair.
