A nervous dog meets her new vet and can’t believe it’s someone she knows

When Cricket’s father first adopted her, he, like so many others, was skeptical of pit bulls – but soon he had transformed into a true pit bull lover.

“She LOVES going places and meeting people,” Bob Kuykendall, Cricket’s father, told The Dodo. “She is submissive to everything! Even cats and chickens. If we pass someone on a walk and they avoid her or don’t pet her, she stands there and stares and whines and wonders why she wasn’t petted. She could really be a showcase for the pit lane.”

While Cricket enjoys visiting most places, there is one place that makes her a little nervous: the vet. She spent a lot of time there as a puppy after breaking her leg, so she’s gotten used to it a bit, but it’s still not her favorite place. Sometimes she tries to like it, but most of the time she just wants to be scared.

Recently, Cricket walked into the vet’s office and, as always, was ready to be nervous when she realized something was different. The vet was suddenly someone she knew – very well, actually.

“My daughter just became a veterinarian this year, so it was our first visit with her,” Kuykendall said.

Cricket was so confused when she saw her sister Maddie wearing the dreaded vet outfit. Maddie bent down and called to Cricket, whose tail began to wag. She considered going over to say hello – then she retreated to Dad, tail between her legs. Was it her sister or the vet or both?

Finally, Maddie came over to express her love to Cricket and the sweet pup finally relaxed. It was definitely her sister who loved her very much, even though she had gone to the “dark side” and become a veterinarian. Or maybe having a beloved family member become a veterinarian is just the thing to get Cricket to enjoy the veterinary practice.

“I don’t know if their perception has completely changed,” Kuykendall said. “It’ll be a permanent thing, but I bet she’ll look to my daughter for some comfort in the future.”
