Ravenna Twp. Man is being held on attempted murder charges after woman reports attack

A Ravenna Township man is accused of trying to kill a woman during a robbery Sunday at his Lovers Lane home.

A Portage County grand jury indicted Anthony S. Jarosz, 42, on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, both first-degree felonies; second-degree assault; and third-degree domestic violence. The charges were filed Tuesday in Portage County Common Pleas Court.

According to court documents and a Portage County sheriff’s report, Jarosz allegedly prevented a woman from leaving her home and assaulted her early that morning.

Complaints filed Monday by the sheriff’s office in Portage County District Court in Ravenna allege Jarosz grabbed the woman by her hair, slammed her head against a wall and then dragged her to the ground, where she hit her head. A complaint says Jarosz then “continued to punch and kick the woman all over her body, causing visible injuries, while telling her that she was dying.”

According to the report, the woman was eventually able to escape the home and went to Coleman Health Services. It is close to the house, also on Lovers Lane, but in Ravenna City.

Ravenna police were called and the woman was taken to University Hospital Portage Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, which included “apparent broken bones” and “possible internal injuries.”

Jarosz was booked into the Portage County Jail early Sunday morning, according to a jail booking report.

Court documents in the current case cite several previous domestic violence cases filed against Jarosz.

He pleaded guilty in Portage County Common Pleas Court in 2021 to second-degree assault involving the same woman, as well as fifth-degree drug possession in a separate case. A fourth-degree domestic violence charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Judge Becky Doherty sentenced Jarosz to four to six years in prison, but granted her early judicial release in July on the condition that she undergo a psychological evaluation and require him to follow all recommendations, attend support meetings and be employed.

Jarosz, who represented himself, wrote in his application for release that he was being treated for mental health problems and was completing vocational training.

This followed several previous requests for early release being rejected.

Jarosz also had two domestic violence convictions filed by Cuyahoga Falls police in Stow Municipal Court in 2015. Online court records do not indicate who the victim was in these cases.

Jarosz is scheduled to be arraigned in the latest case on December 2nd. In the meantime, he is being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. A temporary protection order was also issued.

A lawyer for Jarosz could not immediately be identified.
