Good at Christmas decorating? The Reno County Center could use your help

The Volunteer Center of Reno County is a central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities in Reno County. Area nonprofit and government organizations have submitted the following requests for assistance. BUHLER SUNSHINE MEADOWS RETIREMENT COMMUNITY is looking for volunteers to help decorate for Christmas on December 5th and 12th from 12pm to 4pm. Volunteers will be on their feet and moving most of the time, hanging decorations and working with other volunteers.

HUTCHINSON ZOO need a volunteer Santa Claus during the Nights Before Christmas event on December 12th, 13th, 14th, 20th and/or 21st from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. A Santa Claus costume is available for the volunteer. Volunteers are also needed to help serve hot chocolate and cookies on December 12, 21, 27 and 28. Volunteers interact with families and children and should demonstrate positive behavior.

HUTCH REC is hosting its annual gingerbread house decorating event on Dec. 7 at Memorial Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. to help set up or 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to supervise tables, refill candy, and more Objects when greeting guests or helping guests where to go at shows. Volunteers are also needed on December 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to reset things, or from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to monitor tables and then help clean up, refill candy and other items, and then at Help clean up and greet guests and then help clean up, show guests where to go and then help clean up, or just from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m Help clean up

HUTCHINSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER RESOURCES needs volunteers to assist at the hospital reception information desk. Volunteers greet visitors, answer the phone and search the computer for patient information. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are also needed in the ICU waiting room to help monitor family visitor registration, visit families as needed, etc. Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., or simply as needed. Volunteers are also being sought in the hospital gift shop. Volunteers are sought Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers greet customers and help them purchase items. To do this, the volunteers use a cash register. If necessary, voluntary shift times can be negotiated.

SOUP KITCHEN is looking for a volunteer to come to the soup kitchen and bring clothing donations from the outdoor donation bin to the soup kitchen’s clothing bank. Volunteers could do this once a day if they are able, or if they are only available a few times a week, another volunteer could do this on the other days of the week. Volunteers must be able to lift and carry clothes in, sort and hang them

HUTCHINSON PUBLIC LIBRARY needs tutors for adult education. Tutors assist adult guests in learning basic math and reading skills, GED preparation, improving spoken English, and similar tasks. Materials are provided and meetings take place in a library meeting room. Volunteers should be 22 years old and have completed high school. Volunteers are needed for one-hour sessions between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. (Time is flexible and depends on the volunteer’s schedule.) A volunteer is also needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 5 and 6 p.m. There is also a current need for a volunteer to help a student with a high school business mathematics course after 3 p.m. on Thursdays.
