Use common sense when traveling for vacation

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – Many are already traveling to visit family and friends for the Thanksgiving holiday.

An estimated 80 million people will travel by car this year, AAA officials said. Sergeant Charlie Eipper with WFPD said travelers should plan ahead if they want to travel during the holiday season.

Eipper adds that you should also get plenty of rest, avoid writing or driving, and use common sense.

“There will be more traffic on the road so try to leave a little earlier. Take enough time. “Don’t rush, especially if you’re traveling long distances outside of the city,” Eipper said.

He continued with more helpful tips, adding, “Take breaks. Get out of the car about every hour and make sure you don’t get tired and fall asleep. In many of these accidents, people are sleepy and unable to concentrate. Of course, stay away from your phone. Don’t try to text and drive at the same time.”

Sergeant. Eipper also emphasized the importance of defensive driving, adding that it’s best to keep your eyes on the road and focus on the task at hand.
