Bangladesh only manage 69-2 in a limited start to the Sabina Park Test sport

Bangladesh reached 69-2 against the West Indies as the start of the second Test at Sabina Park on Saturday was hampered by a wet outfield and poor light.

The damp park blighted the first two sessions and reduced the game to 45 overs in three hours.

But only 30 overs were bowled before poor light ended the first day. Rain is forecast in Kingston on each scheduled match day.

The West Indies retained the same eleven that won the first Test in Antigua by 201 runs, and fast bowler Kemar Roach gave them a great start to the second Test, leading Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul in the first seven overs Haque brought about.

But three dropped catches allowed openers Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain to recover from 10-2.

Shadman was dropped to 15 in briefs and 35 in short cover. At stumps, he scored 50 off 100 balls.

Shahadat was in 8th place when he fell into the slips. He scored 12 off 63 balls at stumps.

“The pitch here is very good for batting, it gets harder as the test goes on,” Roach said. “So the (bowling) key is consistency. An even day for us with two wickets.”

Captain Kraigg Brathwaite achieved historic distinction when he surpassed Garfield Sobers to become the first West Indian to play 86 consecutive Test matches.

Sobers, another captain, played 85 consecutive Tests from 1955 to 1972, retiring in 1974 as one of the greats.

Brathwaite made his debut in 2011 but has not missed a Test since 2014.

“It means a lot,” Brathwaite said ahead of his 96th Test. “I am extremely grateful because in this generation there is a lot of T10 and T20 cricket but Test cricket is the real test. In the end I will feel that I have done a really good job for the West Indies.”
