Boys Basketball: New faces ready to make an impact for Osakis – Alexandria Echo Press

OSAKIS – The Osakis boys basketball team may have a lot of freshmen at the varsity level this season, but the expectations remain the same

“We want to compete for a conference championship and a top seed in our section,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said.

Last season, Osakis posted a 23-6 record, won the Prairie Conference title and finished as a Section 6-2A semifinalist.

The Silverstreaks lost a number of graduates to graduation last spring. Senior Seth Staloch and junior Trenton VanNyhuis are the most experienced players Osakis has back.

“We have a lot of speed, length and athleticism,” Hoelscher said. “We need to build depth, work on outside shooting and consistently score points.”

Osakis’ varsity freshmen are seniors Austin Dickinson and Wyatt Klimek, juniors Andrew Jones, Cohen Benson, Taven Ebnet, Micah Moore and Tyler Stier, and sophomore Tyler Wolbeck.

Coach Hoelscher expects Upsala and Browerville-Eagle Valley to be among the teams competing for the conference title.

Albany is the reigning Section 6-2A champion and Hoelscher expects them to be among the top teams in the section along with Mora and Annandale.
