Car leaves the banks of the Cajon Pass 15 Freeway on Sunday morning

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain in the passport) > A car left the 15 Freeway in Cajon Pass Sunday morning and plunged down the embankment. (The photo above is from Escobar Will.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on December 1, 2024, when a car left the southbound lane of Interstate 15 and went down the embankment about a mile before the Kenwood Avenue exit.

The vehicle left the highway and ended up about 500 feet down the embankment, the San Bernardino County Fire Department said.

One person had to be rescued from the vehicle using rescue rope technology.

The driver said he suffered minor injuries.

Combined heat and power plants and several tow trucks blocked the slow lane to recover the vehicle.

It was not immediately clear what might have caused the crash. We will update this story with more information once the CHP’s preliminary accident report becomes available. Further details were limited at this time. This incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
