A New York City woman is behind bars for allegedly starting a “raging inferno” that trapped and killed her ex-boyfriend in a garage last month along with a friend who tried to rescue him, prosecutors said , said the public prosecutor.

Edward Jacobs – a 35-year-old father of three who leaves behind 11-year-old twins and another nine-year-old boy – was sleeping on the second floor of the two-story garage when his ex-girlfriend Aliya killed Fakhri, 43, on March 2, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office November “deliberately” set a fire near the entrance.

Jacobs’ mother, Janet, told the New York Post that her son broke up with Fakhri about a year ago and is still trying to get back together with him.

“Like any other person who gets rejected, he let them know, ‘Yo, I’m done with you.’ “Get away from me,” Janet said. “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for a year, but she hasn’t accepted the rejection. They broke up a year ago.”

Jacobs was reportedly working on a construction project at a property in Queens that involved converting the garage into an apartment when the fire broke out. His girlfriend Anastasia Ettienne, 33, was also at the residence, and their relationship was described as platonic by Jacobs’ mother, according to the post.

Prosecutors say Fakhri showed up around 6:20 a.m. on Nov. 2 and shouted from outside, “Today you’re all going to die,” before setting the garage ablaze.
