Man backs into a woman’s car and leaves a message. He can’t believe what she’s writing to him

A man who backed into a woman’s car left a note admitting what happened. When he received an answer, he was quite shocked.

Dan Chapman, 36, of Baltimore, Maryland, was driving with his wife one night looking for a parking space when he accidentally backed his car into another one.

“It was dark and I was moving slowly, so I was surprised when I got out to look at both cars and there was a dent in the driver’s door,” he said Newsweek.

“It was late, around 9pm, and no one else was outside, so I had no one to ask who the car might belong to. We checked in our car and we had paper but no pen, so we walked.” I went to the corner liquor store, borrowed a pen and wrote a letter that basically said, “Hey ! I’m sorry but I got in your car, here’s my number, call me.”

Chapman was nervous about the reaction he would get from the car’s owner, but he was relieved when the person was more than understanding.

Taking to Reddit to show off the text exchange he shared with the car’s owner, Katie, he said: “What a lovely human being.”

The next day he received a message from Katie that immediately eased his worries. “Honestly, I don’t see any real damage,” she wrote, adding that she didn’t see anything wrong with the car that wasn’t already there.

“If my bumper doesn’t happen to fall off while I’m driving today, I think you’ll be fine,” she said.

In another message, she told him: “This car has 415,000 miles on it, as long as it runs I literally don’t care. I hope you have a great Sunday!”

“Her honesty was a warm reminder that there are nice people in this world,” Chapman said Newsweek.

Chapman’s post on Reddit went viral with over 66,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments from people sharing their thoughts on the story.

“A kid left me a message years ago on an old Chevy Malibu I was driving saying he hit my car and damaged it and that I should call him. I called him and said I couldn’t tell him what it was.” “Dent was his. But that he was a good boy and I still think about him. I hope he still has those ethics and had a wonderful life,” said u/Mediocre-Proposal.

Meanwhile, u/pittgirl12 commented: “I saw two grown men arguing because one accidentally (gently) banged his door on the other’s passenger door while getting out. People love their cars, but I just don’t get it.” “

“You, sir, are what we need more of in society. Good old fashioned honest person with integrity. You had good karma returned to you because you were honest,” said u/lulujunkie.
