Alabama football has a path to a College Football Playoff berth

As far as a possible entry into the College Football Playoff is concerned, the Alabama Crimson Tide currently have to wait and see.

At 9-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play, Alabama failed to make it to the SEC Championship Game this season, meaning the regular season is now over for the Crimson Tide.

Because of this, it means Alabama will not have another opportunity to impress the College Football Playoff committee, meaning the Crimson Tide’s current resume will determine whether or not they make it to the CFP.

But is it enough? Well, some analysts from across college football expressed their opinions on Saturday and Sunday, especially after Saturday’s results that saw both Clemson and Miami fall ahead of Alabama in the CFP rankings.

The latest in that group was USA TODAY Sports’ Blake Toppmeyer, who offered his thoughts on Alabama’s potential CFP chances on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s hard to imagine that a three-loss team that lost to Vanderbilt and then got beaten by Oklahoma would stay in the mix, but here we are,” Toppmeyer said. “If strength of schedule and brand focus are decisive, Alabama will clinch the final spot. Wins against Georgia and South Carolina solidify Alabama’s case.”

While the Crimson Tide obviously can’t improve their record with no games remaining before the standings are officially announced, it’s clear that Alabama may simply have the advantage compared to some other bubble teams.

Will wins against the likes of Georgia and South Carolina lead the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff? Time will only tell.
