Bucs finish Thanksgiving weekend 2-0 with a win over South Alabama

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After trailing for most of the first half, the Charleston Southern women’s basketball team came from behind to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars by a score of 60-55 on Sunday afternoon at the Buc Dome.

Madison Adamson was just one rebound away from a double-double, finishing the contest with 11 points and nine rebounds. Catherine Albums was the best scorer with 18 points. Alaina Nettles was the Buccaneers’ (3-6) leading rebounder as she had a career-high 10 boards.

In a game that featured only two lead changes, Charleston Southern trailed for most of the contest. South Alabama (2-5) took the lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter and only relinquished the lead when Alben hit a three-point shot with 7:54 left in the fourth quarter to give the Bucs a 46-45 advantage.

After the Jaguars hit a jump shot with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers went on a 9-0 run capped by a fastbreak layup Keshunti Nichols assisted by Adamson to give the Bucs the 51-45 lead.

As the game progressed, the Buccaneers’ lead increased to eight points with 32 seconds left when Adamson knocked down two free throws. Charleston Southern shot a season-high 13/16 on the charity strike, including 7/8 in the fourth quarter.

Charleston Southern played from behind most of the game and fell behind by 10 points with 3:26 left in the second quarter; But a fastbreak layup from Alben at the buzzer meant the score was down to 34-29 at halftime.

The come-from-behind victory marked the first time since 2021 that Charleston Southern overcame a deficit of 10 points or more.
