Tree lighting celebrations mark the start of the holiday season in central Alabama

IT’S A BIG EVENT IN TRUSSVILLE, TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARADE, WHICH IS HUGE, BUT TONIGHT IT’S ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN WITH THE COMMUNITY. There are a lot of families here, we have groups from primary schools and secondary schools. We have companies here promoting TRUSSVILLE, so it’s just a great evening. HAVE FUN. This is about the fourth or fifth year we’ve done this. THIS IS MY WONDERFUL THING. We also spoke to Miss Trussville who attended today’s celebrations. Christmas tree lightings and ceremonies marked the start of December in central Alabama. From Birmingham’s City Walk to Trussville, Christmas trees were lit across the area. Signs of the holidays can be seen throughout City Walk with lighted wreaths and trees. In Trussville on Sunday, dozens of people attracted dozens of people to a ceremony with carols and tree lighting. “It’s a big event in Trussville for two weeks before a Christmas parade, which is huge, but tonight is all about having fun with the community,” Mayor Buddy Choat said. “Lots of families here. We have groups of primary schools and secondary schools. We have companies here that promote professional football. So it’s just a great evening that’s a lot of fun.
