GdS: Fonseca is expected to rotate against Sassuolo

AC Milan begins the 2024-25 Coppa Italia season tomorrow evening, hosting Sassuolo for their round of 16 tie at San Siro.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (see below) reports this morning, winning the Coppa Italia is a goal for Milan every season as they are usually just three rounds away from the final but have not won the trophy in over two decades.

Paulo Fonseca will field what he believes is the best possible lineup, but it is clear that he will also need to rotate a little to keep certain players who have played a lot fresh. The trip to Atalanta on Friday evening is looming given the importance they will have at the top end of the table.

The coach must evaluate Noah Okafor’s conditions didn’t play against Empoli because of the flubut the Swiss strikers seem to be better and should be called up. The doubt is whether it will start or not.

There will be several changes in defense where the hypothesis of a complete rotation cannot be ruled out. It would be Davide Calabria on the right from the first minute, Fikayo Tomori and Strahinja Pavlovic in the middle and Filippo Terracciano on the left to give Theo Hernandez a little break.

However, the lack of depth in this area makes it more difficult to rest midfielders. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah could be the two key figures to give Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders a break, although the latter will most likely have to play in Bergamo to improve the team’s balance.

There won’t be a Kevin Zeroli either did not play with Milan Futuro due to a muscle problem, while Francesco Camarda is hoping for a chance from the start. Currently, Tammy Abraham is more likely to get the nod, while Samuel Chukwueze is likely to start on the right.
