Rain causes travel delays, then much colder air returns

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Big weather changes for the Midstate for the holidays and upcoming weekend

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY – WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY

Rain is expected to impact holiday travel across the central state and eastern third of the country today and into the first half of the day on Thursday. However, much of the travel problems will only begin late today and overnight. This afternoon will be cloudy and a little milder, with highs around 60 degrees in the afternoon. Here in the Midstate our main impacts will begin this evening as rain moves into the Midstate and into Thursday morning before clearing in the afternoon. However, we can expect wet roads, limited visibility due to fog and low clouds in the plateau and even some traffic jams on the roads.

Conditions will improve on Thursday afternoon, but will become cooler in the afternoon with temperatures returning to the upper 40s.

LATE WEEK AND WEEKEND

Much colder air is expected to move into the Midstate starting Friday and continuing into the weekend

We’ll wake up to temperatures around freezing on Friday, with highs in the afternoon not reaching the mid-40s. That being said, we will at least have plenty of sunshine Friday afternoon.

It will be even colder on Friday evening, on Saturday morning the minimum temperatures will be 20 ° C and extensive frost is to be expected.

A day of the first weather warning was issued for late Saturday. Severe weather and snow showers will occur across midstate and southern Kentucky Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. Minor snow accumulations (dusting up to 1/2 inch) are possible, particularly along and north of I-40. Of course, we’re still quite a ways away from the weekend, so we could see some changes in the forecast

It will be even colder on Sunday with temperatures around 20°C in the morning and highs of just 30°C in the afternoon!

This colder air will continue into Monday, with highs around 40°C in the afternoon and overnight lows around 20°C Monday evening.

It will remain cool on Tuesday, with temperatures still in the low to mid 40s.
