2025 marks the 20thTh Anniversary of the original Need for Speed Most Wanted. Instead of waiting until then to bring the video game’s hero car to life, BMW is already showing it to the world in Munich. It celebrates another milestone – 30 years since the release of the first NFS title. This is a genuine BMW M3 GTR race car customized in honor of the star car from the 2005 NFS MW.

The single-seat track machine with full roll cage and side exhaust features custom body paneling that any 1990s child will recognize. It is easy to distinguish the M3 GTR racing car version from the road version. Features such as the massive rear wing and the centerlock wheels stand out, as do the even more curved arches.

The NFS MW car has been recreated numerous times by M3 E46 owners. However, we had to wait until BMW finally made it. Better late than never, I think. This is the most iconic M car in video game history and is sure to draw a crowd. You have until January 6th to see it in the metal, but that may not be your only chance. We’re told there are plans to put the vehicle on public display elsewhere in 2025, possibly at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.

Even without a Need for Speed connection, this is a really cool car. There aren’t that many opportunities to see a factory M3 E46 with a V8 engine. The road-legal model is even rarer, with only 10 examples made. However, the street version is essentially a unicorn as it rarely appears. The road-legal model also featured the P60B40 racing engine, but in a slightly detuned configuration.

BMW will close BMW Welt on January 7th for extensive renovation work and Reopening on February 10th. There will be no vehicle deliveries during this five-week break. However, the museum across the street remains open.
