Deepwater’s Gene Munster Sees Long-Term Potential for Apple (AAPL) — Here’s Why

We recently published a list 10 trending AI stocks to watch in December. In this article, we’ll take a look at where Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) stands compared to other trending AI stocks to watch in December.

Speaking to CNBC on a recent show, Jared Cohen, president of global affairs at Goldman Sachs and co-head of the Goldman Sachs Global Institute, said that as data centers’ energy needs rise due to AI, the US needs to work with other countries through ” Diplomacy”.

“When you look at data centers for cloud workloads versus data centers for AI workloads, data centers for AI workloads require extremely high density. You need a concentrated source of energy, so intermittent energy sources like wind and solar power are not the way to go. You need baseload power, so I think nuclear, coal and natural gas are necessary, and we have plenty of that in the US. The problem is that we can’t transport it from where it is located across multiple jurisdictions due to the “not in my back yard” issue. So the US will need some sort of spillover option if it wants to continue to be a leader in this area. There is no single geography that I think is a panacea for this problem.”

Asked whether a return to relatively cheaper and reliable energy sources such as coal could meet AI-driven energy needs, the analyst said the US still needs to look beyond mere dependence on its own sources as the demand for electricity is huge.

“We probably need to bring more than 35 gigawatts of electricity online in the next few years, compared to the 17 gigawatts of electricity that is already online and powering these data centers.” That’s not enough, that’s not enough time. You know, the United States will continue to be a leader in this area, but it will not be able to take the lead alone.”
