Traffic stop in Idaho County uncovers drugs, guns | Idaho

GRANGEVILLE – A routine traffic stop outside Grangeville on Nov. 29 led to the arrest of a 58-year-old man after authorities allegedly discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm in his vehicle.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6:13 p.m. when an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 95 near milepost 229 for an equipment violation. A K9 unit, including K9 Mic and his handler, was called in to assist. K9 Mic was reportedly alerted to the presence of contraband, which led to a search of the vehicle.

The driver, identified as David Leachman, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated possession of methamphetamine and negligent possession of paraphernalia. Additionally, Leachman was charged with driving under the influence, driving without privileges and failure to provide proof of insurance. Authorities also issued administrative offenses for failing to display an annual license plate and maintaining an illegible or obscured license plate.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office noted that all people accused of crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges listed represent allegations made at the time of arrest and are subject to judicial review.
