Harvey Weinstein was taken back to New York hospital, lawyer says

NEW YORK – Harvey Weinstein was returned to New York’s Bellevue Hospital for “emergency treatment due to an alarming blood test result requiring immediate medical attention,” his lawyer Imran Ansari said in a statement.

“He is expected to remain there until his condition stabilizes,” Ansari said.

The disgraced film producer is being held at Rikers Island as he awaits a new trial on sexual assault charges.

According to his associates, Weinstein has been diagnosed with diseases such as leukemia.

Weinstein is suing the city of New York and the Department of Justice for negligence and lack of care.

Ansari said Weinstein “suffered from a lack of adequate medical care and deplorable and inhumane conditions at Rikers Island.”

Weinstein’s spokeswoman Juda Engelmayer said the “abuse was cruel and unusual punishment.”

Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital in September. He was transferred to Bellevue in July after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia.
