Omaha police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at an assisted living facility

Officers are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in West Omaha late Sunday night, police said. At approximately 10:14 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person down at Bailey Pointe Assisted Living near 119th Street and Miracle Hills Drive, authorities said. Omaha police said when officers arrived, they found a man and a woman in an apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators said 88-year-old Douglas Van Horn was suspected of being killed. 86-year-old Evelyn Van Horn then took her own life. KETV NewsWatch 7 reached out to the facility and the director said the facility had no comment. KETV has also reached out to the facility’s parent company, Sagora Senior Living, and is awaiting a call back. The incident is still under investigation. At approximately 10:14 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person down at Bailey Pointe Assisted Living, near 119th Street and Miracle Hills Drive, authorities said.

Omaha police said when officers arrived, they found a man and a woman dead of apparent gunshot wounds in an apartment.

Investigators said 88-year-old Douglas Van Horn allegedly killed 86-year-old Evelyn Van Horn and then took his own life.

KETV NewsWatch 7 reached out to the facility and the director said the facility had no comment. KETV has also reached out to the facility’s parent company, Sagora Senior Living, and is awaiting a call back.

The incident is still under investigation.
