Idaho has two of the most expensive grocery stores

As we approach the end of 2024, the word of the year may have been inflation. It continues to pose a challenge for households as food prices rise significantly. We saw everyday foods like eggs, bread and fresh produce become more expensive. The average price of milk was $3.50 last year, but now it is around $4.10.

What if inflation didn’t matter?

Delish.com recently published a list of the “Overpriced Grocery Stores in America.” Which Idaho grocery stores are on this list? First on the list is Whole Foods.

The Whole Foods factor

Broadway Avenue Whole Foods is the only location in Idaho and is considered a national leader in organic and natural foods. Whole Foods offers premium products that can come with a high price tag, with some customers referring to Whole Foods as “Whole Paycheck.” If you’re a health-conscious person, the appeal of high-quality, ethically sourced food is undeniable, but for the average middle-class family, whole foods don’t become an everyday option due to price.

Which is the second grocery store on the list?

Technically, Albertsons wasn’t on the list, but ACME was: “Acme’s parent company, Albertsons, was.” recently acquired by Krogerthe largest supermarket operator in the country. The additional resources coming from the Kroger network could potentially lower prices, but for now it remains overpriced.”

With 38 locations across the state, it is often criticized for its higher-than-average prices. Albertsons is my favorite store if you’re like me and sometimes value convenience and variety. Bonus: The Broadway location has a bar, which I don’t think is a good idea before going shopping.
