(CBS DETROIT) — A Commerce Township man was found guilty Tuesday of killing his wife in May 2021.

An Oakland County jury convicted Vincent Floyd Vuichard of first-degree murder after a six-day trial in which Vuichard asserted an insanity defense, prosecutors say. Jury deliberations lasted less than a day.

Vuichard was arrested on May 19, 2021 and charged with first degree murder. According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to Vuichard’s home in Commerce Township to conduct a welfare check after his wife failed to show up for work on May 17, 2021.

When investigators entered the home, they reportedly found a comforter covering something on the bathroom floor. When investigators asked what it was, Vuichard replied it was his wife. Vuichard’s wife was found dead. She died of multiple cuts and stab wounds, police said.

Officials believe the murder occurred on or before May 17, 2021.

“Tanya Vuichard was a mother, grandmother, friend and colleague – her senseless murder is a great loss to the community,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “My office has worked with her children for the last three years to bring justice to Tanya, and I applaud the trial team for achieving a first-degree murder conviction in this very difficult case.”

Vuichard will be sentenced on February 6, 2025. First-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence.
