PlayStation updates PS2 sales and here’s how much Nintendo Switch still has to catch up

PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console in history. In the overall ranking, Sony’s device beats the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Switch, although the current device from Kyoto has not yet said the last word. PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary with great fanfare, an ideal time to review and update information and figures. The Japanese company announced that its console has been sold in total 160 million units worldwide. The data was officially updated for the first time since 2011, when it was confirmed that 150 million consoles had been sold. However, analysts had already expected a similar value to that which Sony has now announced. Jim Ryan, the former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, also explained these numbers.

Currently, Nintendo Switch is the only console that can compete with the PlayStation 2, a product whose life cycle has been extended by more than seven years, although its successor will be announced soon. In any case, Current hardware is expected to continue adding new followersespecially in the Christmas campaign. According to official figures, the hybrid has already reached 146.06 million units, so it still has a long way to go to catch up with the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS: there are just under 15 million left.
