A fan-favorite Spider-Verse actor isn’t particularly interested in the role

A big part of the appeal of the Spider-Verse Aside from the successful disregard for the Marvel canon, it is primarily the countless unique Spider-People that are shown in the films. A hilarious addition was the animated take on Spider-Ham, voiced by talented comedian John Mulaney, and the comic showed just as much interest in the whole thing as you’d expect from someone not interested in comics. In a recent interview reported by Comicbook, Mulaney gave some candid and potentially shocking answers to questions about his role as a comedic character. “All I know about Spider-Ham are the lines I say in the movie,” the comic revealed. “When I arrived I didn’t understand what it was, and I don’t understand it now.” He also clarifies that he had no prior training in the role and had no opportunity to refresh his knowledge, recalling : “They wouldn’t even tell me what (the film) was called. I showed up and it kind of had a code name. And they danced around that it was a Spider-Man movie. I thought, ‘I don’t give a shit.’ For example: ‘Don’t tell anyone’ – who should I tell?’”

As is clear to anyone in the know, the character is far more popular than Mulaney gives him credit for, and modders have even brought Spider-Ham to life in Marvels Spider-Man. However, the comic book industry is still pretty niche, although it’s growing thanks to adaptations like the Spider-Verse films. Mulaney, for his part, is an equal opportunity non-fan and shows the same disinterest in DC. When asked about fan wishes for himself or Pete Davidson to be cast as Plastic Man in James Gunn’s new DCU, Mulaney said, “I know who Pete and I are, but I don’t know what the rest of it means.” Is Plastic Man a DC comic?” When Mulaney actually addressed the question of taking on the role, he was just as candid. “It would be a money thing. To be honest, I can represent Pete too – it would be a money thing. Apparently these movies pay a lot of money, these action hero things. But that too is changing in today’s ever-evolving media landscape.”

Regardless of one’s feelings about the character or even the adapted medium, there’s no denying that Mulaney did his part to ensure fans could enjoy the sequel film. There are some rumors going around Spider-Verse Delays have been revealed, fans have something to look forward to Beyond the Spider-Verse Soon enough, considering how much time and effort is put into the unique graphics and excellent voice acting. Spider-Ham is also expected to return in the threequel, so viewers can look forward to watching Mulaney fight his way through another pretty good voice cast.
