Bingham High raises money for Make-A-Wish and special education during the holiday season

SOUTH JORDAN – Bingham High School students are starting the holiday season by donating and raising money for two deserving organizations.

It is part of the district’s efforts to raise money for various charities and causes for families in need.

This time of year, all of the Jordan School District high schools come together to raise money for various charities or organizations.

To give you an idea of how much the schools give back, six high schools, including Bingham High, raised more than $625,000 last year.

“We collect donations all month long and at the end donate them to a charity we supported,” said Megan Tew, Bingham High student body representative.

This year, funds raised by Bingham High will go to Make-A-Wish Utah and Kauri Sue Hamilton School – a special school in the district.

“At the end you feel so tired, but you also feel so happy because you know you served and worked so hard for a good cause,” Tew said.

Tew said it was very special because they met children at Kauri Sue.

According to Mae Caine of Make-A-Wish Utah, the support will go toward making wishes come true.

“There are five different types of wishes that they grant, and our goal next year is to grant 230 more wishes,” Caine said.

There are currently 234 children in Utah waiting to have their wish granted.

“We’ve been doing this for 88 years, so people know what this is and people get excited every year when it happens,” said Ali Owens, student body president.

Owens said they have a new Christmas market and “Dancing with the Stars” event to keep things fun and fresh while giving back.

“I just hope that we can come together as a community and that people can really see the impact that they can make for people,” Owens said.

The fundraiser runs from December 2nd to 20th.
