Heather Dinich believes Miami is the most important factor in Alabama’s entry into the College Football Playoff

Of all the seedings to keep an eye on tonight, ESPN’s Heather Dinich notes where the Miami Hurricanes And Alabama Crimson Tide find themselves in the penultimate ranking of the College Football Playoff.

Dinich spoke about the Hurricanes and the Crimson Tide on “Get Up” on Tuesday. She wants to see where U and Bama are in the ratings to get an idea of which, if any, will make the CFP.

“Well, Miami is the biggest X-factor tonight,” Dinich said. “If Miami is in, I think Alabama is out. If the Canes are out, I think Alabama will have three losses.”

For Dinich, Alabama will still be in the bubble along with a few other teams in the SEC, with a record of 9-3.

“The reason I have the Tide at No. 12 in the rankings is because I think the selection committee will continue to honor Alabama Ole Miss’ Head-to-head wins against South Carolinaas good as South Carolina plays,” Dinich explained.

However, as far as the actual committee is concerned, Miami could still be in and ahead of Alabama, especially if we start comparing losses, even though they lost their season finale last weekend and cost themselves a spot in the ACC Championship.

“Back to Miami for a minute,” Dinich said. “I think the chairman of the selection committee, Warde Manuel, will repeat what he said this season about the committee respecting narrow defeats. You have two of them – Georgia Tech and now Syracuse. These two losses will likely read better in the committee room than Alabama’s two losses to Oklahoma And Vanderbilttwo teams that each have six losses.”

Since this is the final prediction before the field is officially selected this weekend, it’s time for some of these teams. That goes for both Miami and Alabama, as Dinich expected the Hurricanes to have a lead over the Tide in the top-25 during Tuesday’s unveiling.

“We’ll see if they agree with me, but that’s why I think they’ll turn to the Canes tonight,” Dinich said.

Paul Finebaum makes a bold prediction on Alabama and Miami ahead of the CFP Top 25 reveal

Paul Finebaum thinks Alabama will gain playoff eligibility against Miami ahead of tonight’s penultimate reveal.

To be clear, Finebaum was asked whether Alabama will advance to the playoffs since final rankings will not be announced until after the conference championship games. But in the end, Alabama will be ahead of Miami if you look at the resume. Alabama will also face fellow SEC three-loss teams in Ole Miss and South Carolina.

“I think they’ll come in,” Finebaum said on “Get Up” this morning. “And whether it’s a brand bias, I don’t know. However, when the committee looks at Alabama and Miami, I think they see two very flawed teams. Listen, there’s no arguing about that. But Alabama accomplished something on the field. They beat Georgia. They beat South Carolina. I’m just not impressed with Miami’s wins. That may not make up for Alabama’s huge losses. The Vanderbilt and Oklahoma games were terrible. But I think Alabama is a better football team overall and I would like to see Miami stick to that schedule and come away with two losses. That wouldn’t happen.”
