WARNING! Your Idaho cucumbers are infected, throw them away as soon as possible!

Another day, another recall and this time we’re dealing with a popular vegetable that’s being recalled across the country – 26 states to be exact.

The culprit? Cucumbers.

“Throw her out NOW!”

SunFed Produce LLC, or “SunFed,” is conducting a recall for all sizes of fresh cucumbers, according to a news release. Apparently, these infected cucumbers sold by SunFed and other importers were shipped to 26 different states, including California, Idaho, Texas, Utah and Washington.

That’s the scary thing: These are just the states where SunFed is present consciously. There may be other states that have not yet reported infected cucumbers.

“When we learned of this issue, we took immediate action to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the affected ranch to determine the possible cause,” SunFed President Craig Slate said in his official press release.

“Here at SunFed, food safety and consumer health and wellness have been our priorities for more than 30 years. We require all of our growers to strictly comply with FDA food safety requirements.”

What are the cucumbers infected with?

Apparently these cucumbers are infected with salmonella, which can cause serious problems in some and fatal infections in younger, older or even immunocompromised people.

SunFed included more frightening details about the effects of Salmonella, including the “rare case that infection with Salmonella can cause the organism to enter the bloodstream and cause more serious illnesses such as artery infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”

They report that “symptoms of salmonellosis usually begin 6 hours to 6 days after infection and last 4 to 7 days.”

The sticker attached to the cucumbers has a PLU sticker with “SunFed” and “#4062.”
