The suspect in the fatal five-car crash in University Park is being charged again

An Irving man is facing new charges in connection with a crash in University Park that killed a 44-year-old woman and seriously injured an 8-year-old boy.

Alexis Ruiz, 32, is now charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault in connection with the accident.

According to University Park police, on Nov. 22, Ruiz ran a red light in his Chevy Silverado at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Preston Road and crashed into another vehicle.

The car then collided with three other vehicles that were stopped at the red light.

Ruiz ran from the scene, breaking away from a bystander who tried to stop him.

He was eventually arrested about a block away.

Ana Gonzalez Perez, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ruiz was initially granted bail in connection with the fleeing the scene charge.

He was arrested Nov. 28 on the new charges. He remains in the Dallas County Jail.

University Park Police continue to investigate the accident.

Police did not provide any information about the eight-year-old’s condition.
