Playoff chairman explains why Alabama is above Miami

Warde Mannuel, chairman of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, explained why Alabama is ahead of Miami in the latest rankings.

The Crimson Tide are ranked 11th and Miami is ranked 12th. Manuel explained on ESPN what went into the committee’s decision.

“When we rated both teams and looked at their rankings, it came down to, of course, we rate both teams highly, one is at 11, one is at 12, but what ultimately came out is that Alabama is 3-1 against them current top 25 teams and Miami is 0-1. Alabama is 6-1 against teams over .500. Miami is 4-2. Both had some losses that didn’t live up to their expectations in these games. But in the last three games, Miami has lost two twice. And so when we evaluated their work, we concluded that Alabama had the advantage over Miami.”

With an SMU win over Clemson in the ACC Championship, Alabama appears to be off to a good start in the playoffs.
