Missing Missouri mother found dead, boyfriend charged with murder: police

A missing Missouri woman has been found dead and her boyfriend has been charged with murder in connection with her death.

Aaron Malone, 23, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend Aspen Lewis, 24, according to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office.

Court records obtained by FOX 4 Kansas City indicate that Malone contacted Barry County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday, November 25, to report Lewis’ possible kidnapping.

Investigators said when they responded to the home, they saw a large blood stain and jewelry on the roadway behind Malone’s truck.

Officers said Lewis was last seen at her home in Exeter in the early morning of November 25.

Malone provided officers with an oral and written statement regarding Lewis’ disappearance. However, officials said a criminal investigation was launched due to discrepancies with Malone’s statement.

Authorities told FOX 4 they obtained surveillance video that showed Malone’s vehicle arriving at Lewis’ apartment shortly before midnight on Sunday, November 24, and screaming could be heard not long after.

The video then shows Malone leaving around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning and returning shortly after 4 a.m., court records show.

Before Malone got back to Lewis, he called 911, FOX 4 reported.

A day later, authorities met with Malone, who told them he would take them to where Lewis’ body was found.

Officials said her body was found lying in a wooded area, covered in leaves and sticks and suffering from severe head injuries.

According to court documents, Malone later admitted that an altercation had taken place and that he had disposed of Lewis’ body.

Malone was arraigned in Barry County Court and pleaded not guilty Monday morning. He is being held without bail in the Stone County Jail.

Lewis leaves behind a young son and was described as a “very spiritual person” who loved animals and nature, according to her obituary.
