After shoplifting, the couple tries to evade the officers by going to a car wash: Solon police blotter

SOLON, Ohio –

Theft: Aurora Road

On Nov. 26 at 12:10 p.m., officers were called to Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, to a report that a man had left the store with two cases of beer that he had not paid for.

The suspect was seen getting into a white SUV that was waiting in the parking lot with a woman in the driver’s seat.

Police searched the area and discovered the vehicle was parked at a car wash across the street. An officer went to the SUV and saw a case of Modelo and a case of Budweiser inside. The man was drying the vehicle after washing it to apparently keep the police off the trail of the suspects.

The man admitted to taking the beer from the store.

Police also found steaks and other food stolen from the store in the SUV. It turned out that the 55-year-old woman from Twinsburg had also been in the store and stolen merchandise. Police charged her and the 66-year-old Cleveland man with theft.

The theft totaled $246.

Both received trespassing warnings and the SUV was towed.

Criminal Harm: Janet Boulevard

On November 26 at 3:20 p.m., a 33-year-old man reported that someone intentionally damaged his home’s Christmas decorations. A lighted inflatable figure and a light strand were cut.

There are no suspects.

POV: Harper Road

On November 26th at 11 p.m., an officer observed a truck exit US 422 at Harper Road. The truck was in the right turning lane but turned left. It was next seen crossing the center line on Cannon Road.

During a traffic stop, it was discovered that the driver smelled of alcohol. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Bentleyville, told the officer that he had come from a bar where he had “a beer.”

The man failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.122, which is above the state minimum drunk driving limit of 0.08.

Police revoked the man’s driver’s license and charged him with OVI, possession of a prohibited license, failure to drive in marked lanes and displaying expired license plates.

POV: Harper Road

On November 27 at 10:50 p.m., an officer observed a Volvo SUV traveling west on US 422 get too close while passing an officer conducting a traffic stop on the right side of the road.

The SUV left the highway at Harper Road, where a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a 33-year-old woman from Cleveland, smelled of alcohol. There was also a 9-year-old girl in the vehicle.

The woman failed the field sobriety test. An open bottle of wine was found inside the SUV.

The woman had a BAC of 0.267.

Police revoked the woman’s driver’s license and charged her with OVI, prohibited BAC, driving under suspension, endangering children, failing to pull over for an emergency vehicle, driving with expired license plates, carrying an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, etc., wearing a seatbelt.

Police also held the woman on a warrant for failing to appear in court in previous OVI arrests in Shaker Heights and Orange.

The child was handed over to her father, who drove to the scene of the accident.

POV: Richmond Road

On November 29th at 11:10 p.m., a patrol officer saw a Ford sedan traveling south on Richmond Road near Cannon Road. The car failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign before turning onto Cannon Road.

The car, whose headlights were not working, dragged a part and caused sparks as it traveled through the Cannon Road tunnel.

The car also had a flat tire and front damage. It appeared as if the vehicle had hit something.

A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a 29-year-old man from Bedford Heights, smelled of alcohol. He told the officer that his car had hit a curb.

The man failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC of 0.223.

Police revoked the man’s driver’s license and charged him with OVI, driving while prohibited, failing to stop at a stop sign, driving without headlights and without a seatbelt.

OVI: US 422

On November 30 at 8:30 p.m., a concerned motorist reported seeing a car driving erratically on US 422 eastbound between Harper and SOM Center streets. An officer located the blue Chrysler 300 traveling partially on the shoulder of the road.

During a traffic stop, the driver was found crying and in an emotional state. The woman admitted in a slurred voice that she had been drinking.

The woman was unsteady on her feet and her lack of coordination made it impossible to perform a field sobriety test. At some point the woman was sitting on the floor.

She was arrested and given a breath test at the Solon Jail. She had a BAC of .252.

Police suspended the 49-year-old Bedford Heights woman’s driver’s license and charged her with OVI, a prohibited BAC, a marked lanes violation and, because a bottle of whiskey was found in her car, open container in a motor vehicle.
