‘Assassin’s Creed’ director wants to make a ‘Mad Max’ prequel

Justin Kurzel wants to do one Crazy Max Prequel.

The Assassin’s Creed The 50-year-old director has always been “curious” about what happened before the events of the original post-apocalyptic action film and has now revealed that he has been thinking about reaching out to franchise creator George Miller, 79, about possibly The cult classic from 1979, in which Mel Gibson played the lead role, could take over the direction of a prequel.

Kurzel told Collider: “I’ll tell you what, maybe because it had such a big impact, but I’ve always been curious about what happened before the first one Crazy Max – What kind of world was that with the Nightrider, especially-Crazy Max.

“I’ve always been very curious about it and very tempted to talk to George about the possibility of a world that…Crazy Max one and what that is. This was one that I was always very curious about because it was such an influential film in my time. It’s a fantastic franchise, but I’ve always been curious about the moments leading up to the first one because of how richly constructed it is. And it’s a great time in Australia too, this time.”

Crazy Max spawned two sequels, Mad Max 2 And Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome 1981 and 1985 respectively, although the series then lay dormant for 30 years until it was rebooted in 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road.

The 2015 flick, which saw Tom Hardy replace Gibson as the anti-hero, recently received the spin-off Furiosa: A Mad Max Sagawhich stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth and is set before the events of Fury Road.

Looking back at the franchise back then FuriosaMiller said he never thought about being released Crazy Max to remain as popular as it is for over four decades.

When asked whether he had expected the appointment of Crazy Max Spanning generations, the director told IndieWire Filmmaking toolkit Podcast: “Never! It’s best expressed in John Lennon’s imagination that life is what happens when you make other plans.”
