Bayern Munich will make a late decision on the star striker’s future

FC Bayern Munich bosses will be busy working out new deals for key players over the winter break. Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich are expected to make decisions about their futures after Bayern play their final game of the year. In order to avoid speculation, Bayern want to sign both players in the winter. The same cannot be said for Leroy Sane.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern will make a decision on Sané’s future in March/April. The German winger gives priority to Bayern and will therefore not be negotiating with any clubs in January. Sane will be available on a free transfer in the summer if the record champions decide against a new contract.

A report in Germany suggested that a new contract for Leroy Sane appears unlikely as Bayern are concerned about the inconsistency of his performances. Sane has cut a good figure for Die Roten at times this season.

However, Sky Sports reports that Max Eberl and Bayern are still interested in extending Sane’s contract. The Reds have no plans to sell Sane in January but an incredible offer could change their minds. The German winger has no plans to leave Bayern mid-season.

The Reds want to control the financial aspect of the potential new deal for Sane. The German winger is one of the club’s top earners. The Bavarian club offered him a record salary when he joined from Manchester City in 2020. Bayern want Sane to receive a large portion of his basic fee and offer him a performance-based contract.

Sané’s overall numbers at Bayern are good, but they do not give a complete picture of his tenure in Munich. In 189 appearances across all competitions, Sané has scored 51 goals and provided 50 assists. However, he has not performed consistently over an entire season. Sane has a purple spot every season, followed by months of infertility. (Statistics courtesy of Transfermarkt)

Bayern are expected to spend big on Florian Wirtz next summer, which will force them to downsize their attacking department. The future of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry in Munich is uncertain, while Sane is also in the dark about a new deal. Two high-profile departures will help Bayern balance the books.

Leroy Sane is currently in poor form. He has not scored or assisted a goal since October 30th. The German winger needs to perform well over the next few months to improve his chances of getting a new contract.
